Interactive touch wall

We were contacted by Spacekraft, a special-needs equipment manufacturer, who had a concept for a touch sensitive light wall. By placing their hands on a panel, the user would be able to create coloured patterns and movement which would interact with the user's touch.

With reference to the manufacturer's requirements, we designed and created the Touch Wall product using 256 full colour LEDs each with a capacitive touch sensor. The panel design is modular so that larger or smaller panels can be created. A master control board allows the user or their carer to select different pattern modes, and also the colour, speed and fading of the patterns.

As a later addition we also designed a synthesiser board which creates musical accompaniment as the user touches the panel.

The product was shortlisted in the ICT Accessibility category of the 2008 Nasen awards.
